Crianlarich is a small village at the junction of two major routes from the lowlands to the north west highlands. The name Crianlarich derives from the Gaelic for "low pass" and this spot has been an important crossroads since at least medieval times.

Crianlarich has had a railway station since 1873 and has long been a popular spot for tourists and hillwalkers. The village is small but tends to be very busy as the West Highland Way runs through it. Crianlarich features a youth hostel, some b&b's and there are a number of campsites in the surrounding area. It also has the only police station for miles, a nice wee church and a decent shop.
