Duncan II

Duncan was born in 1060 and was the eldest son of Malcolm III with his first wife. He spent fifteen years as a hostage in England and was only released by William II in 1087.

In 1094 Duncan marched north with an English and Norman army and removed his uncle and brother from the throne crowning himself Duncan II. The anglicised Duncan was deeply unpopular in Scotland and after William II´s troops withdrew he was murdered and his uncle reclaimed his position as King Donald III with Duncan´s brother Edmund ruling in the south. Duncan II was buried at Dunfermline Abbey.
